OKable
Cable Television, but you know, OK.
Problem Statement:
I used to like to come home from work and sit down and turn on the TV and flip channels until I found something I liked, but I don’t do that anymore because of all the problems with cable television, the limited selection, the cost, and the commercials.
I like the options provided from streaming services, and I like the control, but it’s also a lot of work to find something new or interesting, and I get a bad case of analysis paralysis. That, and it’s hard to have to pay bills to 5 services just to get the content I want.
The Solution:
Okayble is a Streaming Aggregator, a content curator, and a unified source for television shows, movies, and the relatively new concept of “Flash TV” (Shows lasting 10 minutes or less).
With Okayble, you turn on the TV and there are channels playing shows, movies, and flash. You can change the channel, pause the current show, start it from beginning, skip this episode, remove this show, add more of this show, its up to you. If you know the show you want, you can just jump to that too. You can subscribe to hundreds of channels and you can create your own channels and subscribe to channels created by friends and celebrities alike. You can manage all of your account information from one place, and you only ever need to know one password.
Okayble Customer Administration
Customers, using any web connected device (including smart TVs), will register with Okayble one time. They will provide contact and billing information, credit card details etc. Okayble will set up unique User Pages for each customer.
Customers will be able to provide credentials for any streaming service they currently utilize. Customers will also have the option of adding new services from this admin page. Services can be ad hoc added, canceled, upgraded/downgraded at any time from the User Page. Content restrictions based on user can be administered here as well.
Okayble Content Aggregator
Okayble will create unified listings of all available content across all streaming services user is registered with. This Master List will have attribute data connected making it possible to query the listing based on 100+ variables (format, content type, length, Country of Origin, genre, age appropriate…). This master list will be used when rendering content, providing options to customers, and when scheduling custom channels.
Okayble Channel Master
Okayble starts with 250 channels. The default list of channels are broken up using various attributes. Examples include a 1987 TV Shows channel, a Black and White Movie channel, a Flash Only channel, etc.
From the User Page, customers can select any/all of the default channels, but they can also modify a channel…say they like 1987 TV Shows, but really hate Air Wolf…they can remove that show from the channel schedule. Users can reset to default at any time.
In addition to the standard channels and the customized channels, users will also have the ability to create their own channels by selecting the general genres, specific shows, or fully randomizing across all content. Any channel can be shared with friends and family or shared with the public. If you love it, others probably will too.
Lastly, Okaybe will work with social media influencers, stars, celebrities and important societal figures to create branded channels…think “Barack Obama’s Favorites Channel", or “Taylor Swift’s Only Musicals”.
Watching Okayble
I sit down. Turn on my device and select Okayble. I’m dropped right into a show in progress. I’m in the mood for action and this is romance, so I choose the Charles Bronson Movies channel. This channel is made up of movies from Netflix, HBOGo, and Amazon Prime because I’ve got accounts with all three. If I didn’t have one, or had other services, the options for content would be different.
This channel is showing a movie that is 1/2 way over, I’ll start it from the beginning because I love it. I pause it to get a snack and hit play on return. When the movie is over, a different movie starts right away. If I’d started watching BlankMan but shut it off to go to bed, one option I’ll have with Okayble is to continue watching from where I left off.
New Content
Of course Okayble will want to invest in its own content…either through generating new content from artists, or buying up access to existing media when it is affordable.
How Does Okayble Make Money?
There are a few options and a few rules:
Rule 1 - We won’t sell your data to anyone ever
Rule 2 - We won’t ever add our own advertising/commercials
Option 1 - We add a 10% charge for each service connected. So if Steve only uses Netflix and Amazon Prime, then his Okayble bill would look like:
Netflix monthly $10
Amazon monthly $10
Okayble fee $2.00
Option 2 - We have a static fee of $10/month and treat it like SAAS
Option 3 - We pair up with an existing streaming service and give Okayble away for free as a value-add. We get funding from the streaming services.
Problems:
Need access to content from the services
Need application to be fast enough to be seamless
Need a way to Market this tool
Need funding to create a quality presentation to show to prospective investors
Challenges will be with password administration across services and Age restricted channel content across services.
