Tower of Babble
The tower of babble is a public art project which combines sculpture, public access to resources, teamwork, and fun.
The VISION:
A public art installation. A Sculpture of sorts, almost like the Eiffel Tower. At the top of the tower is a WIFI router that provides free internet to the immediate area...the catch?
The power to run the internet comes from manual labor from public participants.
All around the tower are differently weighted cables, for people of different abilities. To get the internet to turn on and connect, someone needs to pull these cables, lifting the weights to the top of the tower, where they will then slowly fall back down, generating electricity on the way. If lots of people participate, then lots of people can use the service, but if people become lazy, then no service is provided.
This can be extended to include different exercises, beyond cable pulling...and other options could be provided instead of internet such as 110v Power or public music on loudspeaker.
Local Gyms can schedule workouts there. Children can go on field trips to it and play on it. Funding could come from public arts groups, civic organizations, or could be crowd sourced.
